Tracey flew to Orlote, Kenya for a week of eye examinations in a remote Kenyan community. Hosted by the lovely Marais family and Red Tribe and along with dentists she relished the opportunity to be involved in delivering healthcare to people who had no easy access to an optometrist.

2013-2014

Following training at the end of 2013 we are now participating in the LOCSU Learning Disabilites' Eyecare Project. People with a learning disability are 10 times more likely to have a serious sight problem than others. They may not be aware they have a sight problem and may not be able to tell others. This project seeks to improve eyecare available to those with learning disabilities. See http://www.seeability.org/ for further information.

2012-Nomination for Optometrist of the Year in Macular Disease Society Awards

As reported in Ealing Today on 26/7/12....

Tracey Gauld ..... is in the running to be named Optometrist of the Year as part of the Macular Disease Society 25th Anniversary Awards for Excellence.

The nomination recognises her hard work in providing advice and information to patients affected by macular disease.

Age-related macular degeneration affects the central vision and is the most common cause of sight loss in the UK. There are many other forms of macular disease, including juvenile macular dystrophies.

She said: "I feel very honoured to be nominated for this award. With an ageing population optometrists are seeing an increasing number of patients with macular disease. Optometrists have an important role to play in detection, advice and referral, and the Macular Disease Society offers patients an extensive amount of information and ongoing support to those affected."

Helen Jackman, Chief Executive of the Macular Disease Society, said: "Tracey Gauld works hard to improve the lives of people affected by macular disease, with excellence in advice and information. We are extremely grateful for her efforts in Ealing."
